During the June Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees celebrated students and teams who excelled in their activity of choice on the provincial and national stage. A hamstring injury in June of 2024 was a key moment in Alan Tirop’s running career.
“That really showed me that I needed to come back way stronger and every since I came back I have been doing really, really well,” the Grade 9 student at Saint Michael said Wednesday, after winning the novice boys 400 metres at the South Regionals track and field meet at Welland Centennial.
He started running seriously with the Thorold Elite Track Club in October of his Grade 8 year once he moved with his family to Ontario from Nova Scotia.

The Saint Michael Mustangs captured the school’s first Niagara Catholic Athletic Association Zone 2 boys varsity baseball title Monday with a 4-2 victory over the Blessed Trinity Thunder at George Taylor Field in St. Catharines.
The Mustangs, who punched their ticket to the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association) SOSSA playdowns Tuesday with the win, last won a championship in 2008 before the Catholic and pubic boards held separate championships.
